What Does Spray Foam Insulation Look Like?
Spray foam insulation (commonly made of polyurethane) is applied wet and expands into thick foam that fits snugly in wall cavities, crevices, and gaps. It is usually white in color or a similar shade.
What Does Fiberglass Insulation Look Like?
Made of tiny glass fibers, fiberglass insulation can be installed in many areas of a home. Owens Corning fiberglass is pink, but this type of insulation comes in various other colors, from yellow to white to brown. It’s available in and blown-in (top image) and batt (bottom image) form.
What Does Asbestos Look Like?
Vermiculite insulation, which should be removed, isn’t used in modern homes because it can contain asbestos. It consists of very small, lightweight pellets. Asbestos looks like loose gray material, similar in appearance to cellulose or types of blown-in fiberglass. If your home was built in the 1970s or earlier and you have loose-fill insulation in the attic, there’s a good chance it contains asbestos.
